The Assassination of John F. Kennedy was pivotal in America's history. After the killing in Dallas on November 22 1963, the world would never be the same. When I began to conceive of the outline for my film JFK, needed to get a strong visual sense of the scene of the assassination. I spoke to many leading critics of the Warren Report. They all said I should talk to a man named Robert Groden, whose research and writings were to prove crucial in understanding many of the historical issues of the assassination later depicted in JFK.
I first met Robert in Dallas about a year before filming began. I found his overview of the assassination to be quite close to mine, and I asked him to come on board as a consultant for JFK. Robert's contributions to the film, and to the historical archiving of the assassination, have been numerous
